Maha Saptami Celebrated with Devotion and Enthusiasm at Jaipur Durgabari Kolabou and Nabapatrika Puja Mark Traditional Worship of Goddess Durga; Dhunuchi Dance to the Beats of Dhak and Kansar Steals the Show

Jaipur, October 17. The Jaipur Durgabari Association (JDBA) celebrated Maha Saptami with religious fervour, traditional rituals and vibrant cultural performances as part of its ongoing Durga Puja festivities. The celebrations at the Durgabari premises began in the morning with the traditional Kolabou and Nabapatrika Puja, followed by special prayers dedicated to Goddess Durga. A large number of devotees gathered to seek the blessings of the Goddess.

Nabapatrika Puja: Worship of Nature and Divine Feminine Power

Nabapatrika Puja, performed on the morning of Maha Saptami, holds immense religious and cultural significance in the Bengali tradition of Durga Puja.

Nabapatrika consists of nine sacred plants symbolising the life-giving power of nature, agriculture, greenery and prosperity. Since the banana plant is the most prominent among them, the arrangement is popularly known as Kolabou, meaning "Banana Bride."

According to popular belief, Kolabou is sometimes regarded as the wife of Lord Ganesha. However, in religious interpretation, Nabapatrika represents Goddess Durga's manifestation as nature. The nine plants symbolise different forms of the Goddess and the fertility and abundance of nature.

As part of the traditional ritual, Nabapatrika is bathed in sacred water early in the morning, draped in a red-bordered saree, adorned with vermilion and worshipped with devotion. The ceremony reflects the deep-rooted Indian belief in the sacred relationship between nature and divine feminine energy.

Through this ritual, Jaipur Durgabari continues to preserve and promote Bengal's centuries-old religious traditions and cultural heritage.

Traditional Bengali Bhog Served to Devotees

Following the afternoon Bhog Aarti, traditional Bengali Mahabhog was distributed among devotees. The sacred meal included khichuri, mixed vegetables and kheer, along with other traditional offerings.

Devotees enthusiastically participated in the community feast and received the prasad with reverence.

Dhunuchi Dance to the Beats of Dhak and Kansar Mesmerises Devotees

The evening celebrations transformed the Durgabari premises into a vibrant atmosphere of devotion and festivity.

The major highlight was the traditional Dhunuchi Dance, performed by women of Durgabari dressed in traditional Bengali attire.

Dancing gracefully with incense-filled earthen vessels to the rhythmic beats of Dhak and Kansar, the performers recreated the distinctive festive spirit of Bengal's Durga Puja celebrations.

The captivating performance drew appreciation from devotees and visitors, adding a colourful cultural dimension to the religious festivities.

The evening also featured cultural performances by Durgabari artists, who presented devotional songs, music and dance celebrating Goddess Durga and the rich cultural traditions of Bengal.
