FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter, under the visionary leadership of Chairperson Dr. Rimmi Shekhawat, organized an impactful session titled *“Saksham Shakti – Navigating the Boardroom”* at the Constitutional Club, Jaipur. The event aimed to empower women directors, particularly those in family-run businesses, with crucial legal knowledge and boardroom preparedness. The keynote address was delivered by distinguished corporate lawyer *Ms. Angira Singhvi Lodha, Partner at Khaitan & Khaitan*, who brought deep insights into the evolving legal landscape for women in leadership.
The session highlighted the persistent issue of tokenism in Indian boardrooms, where women are often appointed for statutory compliance without being included in meaningful decision-making. Ms. Lodha emphasized that while women may lack real authority, they are still legally liable for decisions, documents, and financial actions made in the company's name.
Ms. Lodha explained Section 463 which offers relief from liability when directors act in good faith, can serve as protective tools for women. The session focused on how women must understand the implications of signing legal documents such as loan agreements, annual reports, and restructuring papers. Ms. Lodha outlined key principles for true empowerment: claiming meaningful roles, understanding legal rights, reading financial documents carefully, maintaining documentation, and speaking up in boardrooms.
The event proved to be an eye-opener for all FLO members and concluded with an interactive Q&A, offering a unique opportunity to explore the legal dimensions of leadership. It inspired attendees to rise, learn, and lead with confidence and clarity.
With Saksham Shakti, FICCI FLO Jaipur reaffirmed its commitment to educating and empowering women to move from symbolic representation to meaningful leadership in the boardroom.
