Historic Leap in Cleanliness Rankings for Jaipur and Dungarpur

Jaipur: Rajasthan has achieved a significant milestone in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, conducted under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Jaipur's two municipal corporations—Jaipur Greater and Jaipur Heritage—made an impressive leap and secured spots in the list of India’s Top 20 cleanest cities. Jaipur Greater ranked 16th, while Jaipur Heritage secured the 20th position.

In a major triumph for smaller cities, Dungarpur was declared the cleanest small city in India (population between 20,000 to 50,000), earning the title of "Super Swachh League City."

The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held on Thursday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was also attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal, Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, and Rajasthan’s Urban Development Minister Jhabar Singh Khara.

Jaipur’s Record-Breaking Progress

In Swachh Survekshan 2023, Jaipur Greater and Heritage were ranked 173rd and 171st respectively. Their rise into the Top 20 marks a historic achievement for cities with populations over 10 lakh, making Jaipur the first city in Rajasthan to reach this milestone

This remarkable improvement was driven by major urban sanitation reforms, including:

Establishment of a waste-to-energy plant

Construction waste processing plant

Door-to-door garbage collection

Night-time street sweeping

Removal of open garbage depots

Regular street cleaning

The leadership of former Municipal Commissioner Rukmani Riyar has been credited for playing a key role in this transformation.

Dungarpur Tops the Small City Category

In the small cities category (population 20,000–50,000), Dungarpur clinched the first position nationwide, establishing itself as a model for urban cleanliness. It was included in the "Small City Super Swachh League", highlighting its consistent efforts and community participation.

Dungarpur’s Municipal Chairman Amrit Kalasua and Commissioner Sanwarmal Abasara received the award from the President. A civic honor rally is scheduled in Dungarpur on Friday to celebrate the team’s return. Since 2018, Dungarpur has won five national cleanliness awards, including being declared the cleanest small city in 2021.
