Jaipur Saturday: The main auditorium of the Rajasthan International Centre resonated with the soulful and meditative strains of the sarod on Saturday evening during the seventh edition of the **“Anhad” Music Series**. The program was organized by the Rajasthan International Centre in association with the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan and SPIC MACAY.
The evening featured a spellbinding performance by Padma Vibhushan awardee sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, who returned to Jaipur after several years to present a memorable musical experience for the audience.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan began his performance with a Guru Vandana gradually unfolding the intricacies of Raag Shyama Gauri. His deeply expressive and lyrical style created an atmosphere of emotional depth and meditative focus in the auditorium. The performance beautifully reflected a balance between the gravitas of classical tradition and effortless artistic expression.
A particularly engaging moment of the evening was the rhythmic dialogue between the sarod and tabla. The powerful accompaniment by tabla artists Rohan Bose and Zuheb Khan added vibrancy to the musical exchange. The dynamic interplay of melody and rhythm drew repeated applause from the audience.
During the performance, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan also shared his thoughts with the audience, reflecting on the pace of modern life. He remarked that in today’s fast-moving world, where time is limited, artists too must adapt their presentations accordingly. He emphasized that music is one of the most powerful forms of devotion and suggested that children should be introduced to the notes of music even before words, as it nurtures sensitivity and a refined sense of aesthetics.
The evening concluded with a standing ovation, reaffirming the enduring appeal of Indian classical music and the profound connection it creates between artist and listener.
