Jaipur: Universal Theatre Academy presented the play “Doosra Adhyay”, written by Ajay Shukla and directed by Keshav Gupta, at the Mini Theatre of Ravindra Manch in Jaipur.
The play explores thought-provoking questions such as: Does every dream in life come true? And if some dreams remain unfulfilled, do they cease to exist? Through its storyline, “Doosra Adhyay” presents a contemporary picture of changing society and examines the endless desires of the human mind.
The play highlights how human desires are never-ending. As soon as one wish is fulfilled, another takes its place, giving rise to an inner conflict. Life does not always move according to one's wishes, and not every dream envisioned by the mind can necessarily be achieved. The conflict between personal aspirations and the values of life was brought alive on stage through the actors’ performances.
The story revolves around Neerja, who, after 12 years of marriage and becoming a mother of two children, travels from Delhi to Chennai for an official training seminar. There, she meets a middle-aged man, Abhay. During the training, Abhay and Neerja gradually grow closer, and Neerja eventually falls in love with him despite her initial reluctance.
As their relationship deepens, the story takes a new turn, exploring the conflict between a person’s social life and inner emotions. The play kept the audience engaged until the end.
Arjun Dev played Abhay, Richa Paliwal portrayed Neerja, while Ram Kishan played the role of the waiter. Lighting and backstage arrangements were handled by Keshav Gupta.
