Jaipur: The second edition of the new monthly musical series ‘Anhad’, under SPIC MACAY and the Department of Tourism’s popular initiative “Music in the Park”, is set to offer a special treat for classical music lovers in Jaipur. On Saturday, 11 October at 6 PM, the serene lawns of Rajasthan International Centre will come alive with the soulful sitar performance of Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, a maestro of the Imdadkhani Gharana.
Organizers Anu Chandok and Himani Khinchi shared that this performance will feature a unique ensemble: not just one, but two tabla artists and a dholak player, creating a richly textured musical experience. The accompanying artists will be Ustad Juhead Ahmed Khan and Sharif Mustafa on tabla, and Prateek Kumar on dholak.
The ‘Anhad’ series aims to bring the rich traditions and diverse forms of Indian classical music to a wider audience. The inaugural performance featured Padma Bhushan Begum Parween Sultana, whose soulful vocals left listeners spellbound. This time, the magic of the sitar promises to mesmerize the audience in equal measure.
Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, one of India’s most celebrated sitarists, is known for his deeply emotive style and intricate improvisations. A torchbearer of the Imdadkhani Gharana, his music blends traditional alaap, gat, and taans with exceptional creativity. His work has not only captivated audiences in India but also taken Indian classical music to global stages across Europe and the United States, giving the sitar a renewed global identity.
According to the organisers, ‘Anhad’ will be held on the second Saturday of every month, featuring renowned classical artists from across the country.Entry to the event is free.
