Women’s Leadership Essential for Developing Water Bodies, Says Dr. Mohammad Junaid at Media Workshop in Jaipur

Jaipur. A workshop for women media professionals was organized at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan on the occasion of the upcoming World Water Day. The workshop was jointly organized by The Future Society and UNICEF to strengthen the role of media in addressing issues related to water, climate change and children’s future.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohammad Junaid, Director of Watershed Development and Soil Conservation, emphasized that women’s leadership is crucial for the development and protection of water bodies. K. L. Rao also highlighted the important role of women journalists in promoting water conservation efforts in Rajasthan.

The workshop titled “Journalists for Water Security: Media Dialogue on Water, Climate and Children” aimed to enhance media engagement on key issues such as water security, climate change and their impact on children, while also highlighting the significance of World Water Day, which will be observed on March 22.

During the session, Rishabh Himani explained the theme of World Water Day 2026 — “Water and Gender Equality: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.” He emphasized its relevance in the context of Rajasthan, noting that water scarcity disproportionately affects women and children. Therefore, women’s participation in water management and conservation is essential.

In the technical session, Sohib Khan discussed the challenges of water scarcity in Rajasthan, the link between water and climate change, and its impact on health and children’s rights. He also guided journalists on identifying strong story angles, using data-driven reporting, and highlighting community-based solutions while covering water-related issues.

A panel discussion titled “Gender in the Media Room: Women Journalists Shaping the Water Narrative” was also held, where women journalists shared their experiences and perspectives on the role of media in raising awareness about water issues.

Speakers at the event stressed that women’s leadership plays a vital role in the development and conservation of water bodies. They noted that when women are equally involved in water-related decision-making, water services become more inclusive and sustainable.

Dr. Meena Sharma said the workshop was organized to encourage journalists to report more effectively and responsibly on issues related to water, climate change and children. She added that similar dialogues and workshops would continue in the future to strengthen media engagement in these areas.

Senior journalists including Dr. Jyoti Joshi, Prerna Sahni, Archana Sharma, Shalu Sachedeva, Asha Patel and Manimala Sharma were among the many women journalists present at the event.

Ankush Singh extended greetings on the occasion of World Water Day 2026 and thanked the women media professionals for their participation. Paritosh Gupta and Nisha Sharma also shared information about various water conservation schemes being implemented by the central and state governments.
